this isn't new info, or something that i haven't heard of, or thought of, before. i read this article in OK magazine (free subscription, and moving on...) about cheating and facebook, and these two "experts" were debating whether technology, particularly FB, facilitates infidelity.
there's even a website where you can share your sad, angry, or otherwise angst-ridden FB cheating stories.
while the two experts (what self-respecting expert contributes to OK magazine, anyway?) were supposed to have opposing views, they were essentially the same, they just stressed different points.
anyway, does FB make people cheat?
no.
does it make cheating easier?
absolutely.
you can find people from the past, old boyfriends/girlfriends. you can find people who have similar interests or mutual friends, and you have access to thousands, if not millions, of people that you never would have had access to before.
and you can attempt to convince yourself that it's not "cheating" because you haven't touched the other person. but cheating isn't just about sleeping with someone. you can have an emotional affair that is just as intimate (and hurtful to your partner) as sex.
i feel like this is common knowledge, and i don't know why they debated it or why i'm posting about it, but i took the time to read the entire (half) page. maybe some people don't think online relationships fall into the category of cheating.
with texting, email, social networks, and online dating sites, it's *so* ridiculously easy to interact with other people behind your significant other's back, even when they're in the same room. and you can't check your boyfriend's phone to see who and what he's texting. i mean, you can, but you obviously don't trust him.
yay. another thing to make me hesitant about being in a relationship.
